Beijing, October 7 (CNR, Reporter Lü Hongqiao). According to a report by China Media Group’s Economy Voice program Global New Finance, laser display products are rapidly entering the market on the strength of their large-screen advantages, from living-room giant TVs of 100 inches and above to short-video projection devices and interactive gaming equipment. Statistics show that sales of 100-inch large-screen TVs have surged over the past four years. At the recent 7th Laser Display Technology and Industry Development Conference, experts said large-screen, ultra-high-definition and immersive experiences have become the consumer upgrade trend in the display sector.
At one company’s showcase, a TV no longer needs a dedicated feature wall, because this is the world’s first 150-inch screen-sound laser TV. It is large enough to cover almost an entire living-room wall. A technician explained: “At 150 inches, it is about 3.1 meters wide, while the average home’s TV feature wall is only a little over three meters wide. In other words, if you mount a 150-inch laser TV on the wall, it effectively becomes your feature wall. The screen itself emits sound, with 15 speaker units. It can achieve a stable brightness of 1,000 nits peak, equivalent to 5,000 nits on an LCD TV.”
Statistics show that in the past four years, sales of large-screen TVs in the 85-inch segment grew by 441%, while sales in the 100-inch segment jumped by 892%. Li Wei, President of Hisense Visual Technology, believes that judging by market demand, technical barriers and cost structure, 120-inch laser TVs will become the industry mainstream over the next five years. “The cost of LCD TVs above 100 inches grows exponentially as screen size increases. 116-inch large screens have already entered mass production, but prices remain high and make widespread adoption difficult. OLED is constrained by its manufacturing process and cannot be mass-produced above 100 inches. Laser large-screen costs, by contrast, are controllable, and foldable screens can easily fit through a doorway. With clear demand, a clear trend, mature technology and controllable costs, the rise of 120-inch laser TVs to the industry mainstream over the next five years is an inevitable outcome of industry development,” Li Wei said.
Beyond large-screen TVs, laser display is also converging with multiple fields to create new application scenarios and drive the consumer upgrade trend. A golf simulator consists of laser display equipment and tracking devices. As soon as a player swings the club, a high-speed camera dynamically captures the entire motion, and artificial intelligence then calculates and displays a range of data on the laser display screen, including ball speed, launch angle, spin, clubhead speed and flight distance, helping players improve their skills. According to technicians, because laser display equipment is highly portable, the golf simulator can be used in many environments. “It can be used at home or in small clubs, and also in golf venues. This machine can be placed at a golf driving range as well. All of that is possible.”
Data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology shows that global shipments of laser display products reached 2.379 million units in 2025, with a compound annual growth rate of more than 23% over the past five years. China accounted for nearly 50% of those shipments. Key technologies are being commercialized at a faster pace, and coordination among upstream and downstream players in the supply chain has improved markedly. Dong Min, Secretary-General of the China Video Industry Association, said the next step is to continue advancing the integration of “AI + laser display” to create new advantages for the display industry.
Dong Min said: “’AI + laser display’ is built on laser display hardware, combined with AI perception-related computing power and algorithms, to create an integrated system spanning picture quality optimization to scenario adaptation, and human-machine interaction to content generation. We should believe that ‘AI + laser display’ will redefine the large-screen experience and reshape the industry’s value system, thereby creating new advantages for our industry’s development.”
