In-Depth Sharing: Breaking Down Laser Cleaning Processes in Practice
The summit invited five distinguished speakers to take the stage in turn. They shared frontier research results, industry pain points, and frontline implementation practices in laser cleaning from multiple perspectives, including integrated circuit packaging applications, cleaning of large-format complex components, laser solutions, thermal barrier coating removal processes, and shipbuilding applications.
The keynote session was chaired by Professor Yang Shanglei of Shanghai University of Engineering Science, who also delivered a report titled “Research on the Application of Laser Cleaning and Surface Microstructure Fabrication in Integrated Circuit Packaging.” The report focused on the reliability of solder joint interfaces in microelectronic packaging and introduced femtosecond laser cleaning and surface texturing technologies, which regulate surface wettability by constructing micro/nano structures to improve the reliability of packaged joints. It also presented application practices of high-power air-cooled laser cleaning in macro-scale heavy industry manufacturing.
Jin Yang, Founder and General Manager of Shenzhen Hydro Laser Technology Co., Ltd., presented “Report on the Application Progress of Laser Cleaning for Large-Format Complex Components.” He noted that laser cleaning has already seen considerable application in high-end manufacturing such as lithium batteries, but its adoption in large-area, thick-coating scenarios has been slower. The report explored the feasibility, current challenges, and future directions of replacing high-pressure water jet cleaning with laser cleaning, offering ideas for the technological iteration of large-format component cleaning.
Ye Yunxia, Deputy Dean of the School of Mechanical Engineering at Jiangsu University, shared “Research on Laser Cleaning Removal Processes for Thermal Barrier Coatings.” Addressing the maintenance needs of aero-engines and gas turbines, she introduced selective removal processes for ceramic layers and metallic bond coats, and presented process parameter windows under low-temperature protection of the substrate, providing a research reference for the precise removal of multilayer protective coatings.
He Zhikang, National Laser Cleaning Manager of IPG Photonics (Beijing) Fiber Laser Technology Co., Ltd., shared the path of “IPG Laser Cleaning Empowering Enterprise Industrial Upgrading.” Contrasting the shortcomings of traditional industrial cleaning—high pollution, high cost, and poor working conditions—and drawing on numerous implementation cases in heavy industry, automotive, and shipbuilding, he introduced nanosecond pulsed and high-power continuous-wave laser cleaning technologies. He highlighted their advantages of controllable substrate damage, low heat impact, energy savings and environmental protection, and compatibility with automated production lines, helping manufacturers improve quality and reduce costs.
Yin Zhishuang, Deputy Director of Jiangnan Shipyard (Group) Co., Ltd., China State Shipbuilding Corporation, delivered a report titled “Exploration of Laser Cleaning Applications in Shipbuilding.” Drawing on frontline shipyard practice, he analyzed the pain points of traditional sandblasting and rust removal, including labor shortages, environmental pressure, and inconsistent quality. He also discussed the advantages of laser cleaning, such as no abrasives and easy integration with robots, while objectively outlining shortcomings including high equipment investment and insufficient speed for thick rust removal. The report reviewed four key implementation scenarios—steel plate pretreatment, weld cleaning, pipe and outfitting parts processing, and coating repair—and looked ahead to a new intelligent operating model that moves from handheld and robot teaching to AI-based rust recognition and autonomous path planning. He called for coordinated efforts across the supply chain to deepen the implementation of laser cleaning in shipbuilding.

Collaborative Problem-Solving to Accelerate the Scaled Adoption of Green Laser Cleaning
The summit spanned the entire industrial chain, from research institutions and equipment makers to industrial end users, breaking down information barriers between academic research and factory floors. In addition to the keynote reports, the summit held a roundtable dialogue titled “Laser Cleaning Technology Iteration and Application Implementation: Focusing on Large-Format Laser Cleaning and Advanced Cleaning Technologies.”
The roundtable was moderated by Ye Yunxia, Deputy Dean of the School of Mechanical Engineering at Jiangsu University. It brought together experts from universities, light source companies, equipment manufacturers, and shipbuilding end users for in-depth exchanges on four major directions: composite laser process iteration, engineering of large-format automated equipment, process value assessment, and supply chain collaboration.
Participating experts reached a consensus: laser cleaning aligns with the broader trend of green transformation in manufacturing, but the industry still faces multiple challenges, including thick-layer cleaning efficiency, scenario-specific process libraries, equipment investment costs, and industry standards. Summit guests proposed that only through sustained collaboration among research institutes, equipment manufacturers, and end users—accumulating scenario-specific process data, iterating equipment solutions, and jointly building industry standards—can progress be made. The shipbuilding industry could take the lead in building demonstration scenarios, closing the loop from demand to testing to iteration, advancing coordinated adaptation of light sources, optical sensing, and equipment systems, and accelerating the engineering rollout and industrial-scale application of large-format laser cleaning.
Leveraging the strong industrial traffic of the China International Industry Fair, the XZQ 2026 Laser Cleaning Industry Summit successfully created a specialized vertical exchange event focused on practical implementation. The summit built an efficient platform for the domestic laser cleaning industry for frontier technology sharing, real-world case analysis, and supply-demand matchmaking across the supply chain. It will strongly promote the standardization and scenario-based implementation of laser cleaning processes and advance collaborative innovation among industry, academia, and research.
The organizers said they will continue to deepen their focus on laser sub-sectors, hold practical industry exchange events, connect resources across the entire chain from research and equipment to end users, and support the high-quality development of China’s laser intelligent manufacturing industry.
