On June 11, the XZQ 2026 World Laser Manufacturing Conference, themed Intelligent Laser Manufacturing · Photonics linking the Future, kicked off grandly in Shenzhen.

The event gathered academicians from home and abroad, top scientists and senior executives from leading industry enterprises, and carried out in-depth dialogues on cutting-edge fields including solid-state lasers, disk lasers, ultraviolet lasers and laser biomedicine.

Held concurrently with the conference were a series of flagship events, including the 9th Secret Light Awards (SLA) Presentation Ceremony and the 19th Laserfair Shenzhen. Built as an integrated industrial gathering combining conferences, exhibitions, award ceremonies and academic exchanges, the event delivers a full picture of the latest breakthroughs in laser technology and the development landscape of industrial integration.

In the opening address session of the conference, Ying Mingjiong, Chairman of the China Optics and Optoelectronics Industry Association (COEMA), noted that this year marks the fourth year that COEMA has co-hosted the World Laser Manufacturing Conference together with the Guangdong Laser Industry Association (GDLIA). Leveraging the industrial strengths of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the conference has grown into a globally influential flagship event for the laser industry.

Under the theme of "Intelligent Laser Manufacturing · Photonics linking the Future", this year's conference features ten themed sessions on hot topics. It aims to pool global industry wisdom, unlock the full-chain innovation pathway from fundamental research to industrial application, build an open and collaborative intelligent manufacturing ecosystem, and jointly drive the global laser manufacturing industry toward higher-level development.

In his address, Huang Zhijia, President of GDLIA, stated that China's laser industry has shifted from following the global pace to taking the lead in selected segments. In the first quarter of 2026, the industry saw a notable rebound in sentiment, with recovering demand, improved profitability and intensified R&D investment, demonstrating stronger overall operational resilience.

He specifically pointed out that "Photonics + AI" is emerging as the new growth driver. Laser technology is embracing brand-new opportunities in areas such as AI computing power, third-generation semiconductors, new energy and ultrafast processing. Looking ahead, he called on the entire industry to uphold technological innovation, deepen the integration of photonics and AI, return to the essence of manufacturing, and build a sound industrial ecosystem, to jointly advance the high-quality development of China's laser industry.

Yuan Baocheng, Member of the Leading Party Members' Group and Vice Chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the CPPCC, and chain leader of Guangdong's strategic emerging industrial clusters of laser & additive manufacturing and precision instruments, noted that aligned with the development requirements of new quality productive forces, the laser industry carries multiple values: it empowers the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries, supports quality and efficiency improvement of modern industries, and itself represents a highly promising emerging sector.

Guangdong boasts a solid foundation for laser industrialization and outstanding development advantages, and the provincial Party committee and government have included the laser industry in its key development plans. He emphasized that all parties should focus on core technology breakthroughs, shore up weak links in R&D, accelerate the commercialization and application of scientific and technological achievements, adhere to opening-up, and deepen international exchanges and cooperation, to jointly foster a new landscape for the laser industry in Guangdong.
