“What can I dedicate my entire life to?”

Thirty years ago, when Xi Jingyu first arrived in Guangdong, this question lingered constantly in his mind. He observed the market extensively and finally found his answer: marking identification on products, a solution applicable to every sector, from food and beverages to daily necessities. With that, Xi Jingyu dived headfirst into the industrial marking industry, and built what is now Guangdong Mingyu Technology Co., Ltd.

Today, this Henan-born entrepreneur who built his career in Luoyang, with the credentials of a State-level "Little Giant" Enterprise Specialized in Sophisticated, Unique and Novel Products, has returned to his home province of Henan to attend the Henan Merchants Conference. On April 17, during the 2026 Henan Merchants Conference, Xi Jingyu, General Manager of Guangdong Mingyu Technology Co., Ltd., accepted an interview with reporters from Dahe Cufin.

Speaking of his feelings about returning home for the conference, he said: "The local government attaches great importance to high-quality enterprises founded by Henan natives operating outside the province. We also want to see our hometown achieve better development and a stronger industrial sector. That’s why attending this conference in my hometown feels especially familiar, and gives me even greater confidence."

Xi Jingyu’s entrepreneurial story is almost a microcosm of the upgrading of China’s manufacturing industry. In the 1990s, he started in the industrial marking sector, printing production dates and coding on products. He soon discovered that traditional marking methods had inherent flaws: the markings were erasable, and it was difficult to achieve reliable anti-counterfeiting. Around 2008, he keenly identified the potential of laser technology, and became one of the earliest pioneers in China’s laser marking sector.

"Laser markings are non-erasable, which brings enterprises benefits in anti-counterfeiting and anti-channel conflict, while also enabling digital marketing functions," Xi Jingyu explained. From simple letter engraving to full-process traceability via QR codes, Mingyu Technology has stepped into a new era of digital and information-based development. Yet his vision has not stopped there. Faced with the trend of low-volume, customized production in the future consumer marke, and the label-free initiative driven by environmental protection requirements, he believes laser technology has enormous potential to deliver value.

This trip back to Henan is not just for the conference for Xi Jingyu; he is also leading his team to conduct an inspection tour in his hometown of Luoyang. "The purpose of this inspection is to lay the groundwork for our next step of cooperation. We are devoting time and effort simply to build a stronger industry," he said. His focus is on Luoyang’s pillar industries: bearings, steel furniture, and motorcycle parts.

To others, these may be deeply traditional industries, but in Xi Jingyu’s eyes, they are full of opportunities. Taking the bearing industry as an example, he notes that with its growing application in the robotics sector, increasingly high precision requirements are being put forward—and this is where precision laser cutting can play a transformative role.

When it comes to steel furniture, Xi Jingyu believes it has inherent advantages in environmental performance and transportation costs, making it well-suited for overseas countries and regions with humid climates and high termite infestation risks. In his view, although Luoyang’s steel furniture industry has already shown a sound momentum of cluster-based overseas expansion (885840), there is still considerable market space and new opportunities to tap into.

For Luoyang’s motorcycle parts industry, what Xi Jingyu sees is the room for automation upgrading. From assembly, packaging to warehousing, robotics and automated conveyor systems can be deployed to reduce waste and improve operational efficiency.

"Whether it is processing, packaging, warehouse management, or unmanned loading, these are the full-suite solutions we focus on the most," Xi Jingyu said. "Enterprises in my hometown, large and small, each face their own challenges. What we aim to do is help them identify their pain points, deliver tangible solutions, and enhance their core competitiveness."

As a Henan merchant who has built his career outside his hometown for decades, Xi Jingyu summarizes the core traits of the Henan business community as "diligence" and "a knack for learning from experience". "Everyone here is truly hardworking; every single one of us has built our career through relentless hard work. The second trait is that we are adept at summarizing experience. Behind diligence is the ability to reflect and improve, in a continuous iterative cycle."

He believes that products made in Henan are not only for China, but for the whole world. And what he strives to do, is to carve out a higher-quality future for his hometown’s industries with laser technology and digitalization.
