A total of 30 Chinese listed laser companies have now disclosed their half-year reports. The data shows that, driven by AI computing demand, orders for laser equipment have surged in core areas such as optical communications, precision manufacturing, and 3D printing. Nearly 70% of the companies reported positive growth in both revenue and net profit, with some seeing year-on-year net profit increases of over 800%. Notably, AI-related business has become the "primary engine" driving performance for some companies.

From AI chip packaging to high-power laser devices, and from intelligent equipment to industrial software, major laser players are betting across the AI industrial chain, using technology iteration and capacity expansion to seize the opportunities of a "golden decade."

Looking ahead, as AI computing demand continues to surge, the laser industry may become a "new engine" for China's high-end manufacturing.

AI Deep Dive: Leading Players Stake Their Claims in New AI Tracks

AI computing infrastructure is the most fundamental driver behind this round of growth in the laser industry. Leading companies represented by Han's Laser, HGTECH, and YOFC are building technology moats by deeply cultivating core AI computing scenarios.

For example, Han's Laser continues its "AI computing+PCB+semiconductor" main line, making advance arrangements for 44-layer midplanes and 78-layer orthogonal backplanes. Its PCB intelligent manufacturing equipment revenue reached RMB 4.985 billion, up 109.29% year on year. The company has rolled out a mass-production solution for through-holes with a 31.5:1 high aspect ratio for high-end PCBs, and developed copper paste sintered-hole and ultra-thick substrate forming technologies to meet AI servers' demand for high-density interconnection.

HGTECH has clearly defined its "1+3+N" strategic framework, with optoelectronic technology as its core engine and AI computing and applications as its main track. Its optical module portfolio covers 800G and 1.6T high-speed transmission requirements. The company's self-developed silicon photonic chips have entered validation with leading customers, and it has dynamically demonstrated a 3.2T NPO optical engine solution, with technology reserves leading the industry.

YOFC has unveiled its "AI-2030" strategy, systematically laying out frontier products such as hollow-core fiber and multi-core fiber across three major scenarios: Scale-up, Scale-out, and Scale-across. In the first half, the company's net profit surged 888.88% year on year, mainly benefiting from the explosive demand for new types of optical fiber driven by the accelerated construction of intelligent computing centers.

Capital Empowerment: Financing and Capacity Expansion Build a Second Curve

Amid the surge in AI computing demand, several leading companies are accelerating capacity deployment through capital operations, stockpiling ammunition for the "golden decade."

Among them, DR Laser is advancing a dual "A+H" financing platform, planning to raise RMB 3 billion to build a pan-semiconductor base. With its core photovoltaic business under pressure, the company aims to use private placements to build capacity for CW laser chips and high-density optical interconnect devices, targeting a transformation from a single equipment vendor to a platform-based service provider.

Shijia Photons is planning a RMB 2.8 billion private placement, focusing on TGV glass micro-hole equipment and silicon photonic chip capacity. In the first half, revenue rose 50.66% year on year, with the share of photonic chip revenue climbing to 83%. Its DFB laser chips have entered batch supply, marking its entry into the silicon photonics and high-end semiconductor equipment markets.

In addition, Focuslight Technologies has proposed a RMB 1.021 billion private placement to step up R&D in substrate materials and testing equipment for high-speed optical communication lasers. Despite widening losses in the first half, its optical communications revenue surged 214.89% year on year.

Platform Expansion: Global Layout Reshapes the Industrial Landscape

A closer look also reveals that some major laser companies are advancing multiple technology roadmaps in parallel, using platform-based expansion to build a foundation of technology and capacity for future growth.

For example, Hymson is evolving into a platform-based laser intelligent manufacturing enterprise. The company has entered the AI chip advanced packaging industrial chain, secured orders for TGV equipment from a leading North American computing power company, and developed integrated solutions for AI power supplies and liquid cooling. It is driving the coordinated development of "laser + automation + AI."

Raycus Laser, meanwhile, is deepening its "laser + AI" integration and has invested in building a new light source R&D and production base in Wuhan Optics Valley, expected to begin production within the year. The company's laser shipments grew 24% year on year, and it is reducing supply chain risk through vertical integration.

AFR is benefiting from accelerated global AI computing investment, with strong demand for its fiber optic components used in high-speed optical modules. Its gross margin rose to 40.80%, and the company plans to increase R&D investment to address technology iteration risks.

"Laser + AI": Is the Laser Industry Looking Toward a "Golden Decade"?

The current wave of AI computing infrastructure construction is reshaping the demand logic and competitive landscape of the laser industry with unprecedented force. From PCB drilling equipment to optical communication chips, and from TGV glass through-holes to hollow-core fiber, laser technology has upgraded from a traditional general-purpose processing tool to an irreplaceable core process equipment for high-end AI manufacturing.

According to forecasts by the China Commercial Industry Research Institute, the broad laser market is expected to exceed RMB 150 billion in 2026, with the overall industry scale potentially reaching RMB 180 billion by 2030.

Over the next three years, as new capacity is released in concentrated fashion and technology iteration advances in parallel, China's laser industry is expected to usher in a true "golden decade" amid the combined momentum of AI computing, semiconductor domestic substitution, and new energy industrial upgrading.

However, the cyclical volatility of AI capital expenditure, supply chain bottlenecks for high-end components, and capacity involution in the general equipment sector remain a Sword of Damocles hanging over the industry.

In the future, whoever can accelerate on both the technology and capital tracks will emerge as the biggest winner in this round of industrial transformation.
