The Chinese optoelectronics industry is enduring an extraordinary period of upheaval in 2026.
Since the start of the year, three leading optoelectronics companies have been rocked by scandals in quick succession. On August 4, Wu Rui, the controlling shareholder of Lianovation Optoelectronic, was placed under investigation by the China Securities Regulatory Commission for allegedly failing to disclose non-operating fund transfers as required. A day later, Yu Rongqing, the controlling shareholder of the now-delisted Goldengreen Technologies, was detained on charges including financial fraud. And as early as March 22, Lin Xiucheng, the controlling shareholder of Sanan Optoelectronics — a photonics leader with a market value exceeding RMB 80 billion — was taken into custody for investigation.
Within just a few months, the helmsmen of three industry bellwethers have fallen. once regarded as technology pioneers, these companies are now mired in legal and debt turmoil. Is this the growing pain of a cyclical downturn, or the inevitable outcome of runaway capital games? And what warning does the regulator's "zero tolerance" stance send to the entire sector?
Lianovation Optoelectronic: RMB 500 Million Debt Overdue, Controlling Shareholder Under Investigation
On the evening of August 4, 2026, a filing from Lianovation Optoelectronic stunned the market. The company and its controlling shareholder Wu Rui each received a notice of investigation from the China Securities Regulatory Commission, on suspicion of failing to disclose non-operating fund transfers as required.
So-called non-operating fund transfers, in plain terms, refer to fund lending between a listed company and related parties that does not involve ordinary business transactions. Where the money went and what it was used for are precisely the facts investors most need to know.
At the same time, Lianovation Optoelectronic disclosed another bombshell announcement: overdue principal on loans and notes owed by the company and its subsidiaries reached RMB 506 million in total, exceeding 10% of its latest audited net assets.
With the controlling shareholder under investigation on one side and massive debt overdue on the other, the two threads inevitably raise a question: were those undisclosed fund transfers the trigger for today’s debt crisis?
In fact, the financial data had already sounded the alarm. In the first quarter of 2026, Lianovation Optoelectronic posted revenue of RMB 612 million, down 23.63% year on year, while net profit attributable to the parent company was RMB 82.67 million, down 28.80% year on year. With the double decline in performance compounded by a regulatory investigation and debt defaults, this veteran optoelectronics company listed for more than 20 years is now facing a severe crisis of confidence.
Goldengreen Technologies: Controlling Shareholder Handcuffed 22 Days After Delisting
On August 5, 2026, the already-delisted Goldengreen Technologies announced that its controlling shareholder Yu Rongqing had been placed under criminal detention by the Suzhou Public Security Bureau on suspicion of illegally disclosing or failing to disclose material information. It came just 22 days after the company was delisted on July 14.
According to reports, Yu Rongqing's "crime and punishment" began with a three-year financial fraud scheme. From 2019 to 2021, Goldengreen Technologies inflated profits by more than RMB 70 million through fabricated acceptance documents, forged procurement contracts and fake project receipts. The main operator was Minbao Information, a subsidiary the company had acquired, which turned contracts that were never actually performed into "real accounts" to meet performance commitments.
In June 2025, the securities regulator imposed penalties on Goldengreen Technologies: the company was fined RMB 8 million, while Yu Rongqing was personally fined RMB 10 million and banned from the securities market for five years. On July 14, 2026, the company's shares were officially delisted.
Sanan Optoelectronics: Hidden Wounds of a Giant — When Will the Detention Storm End?
Rewind to March 22, 2026. Sanan Optoelectronics, an LED chip leader with a market value exceeding RMB 80 billion, announced that its controlling shareholder Lin Xiucheng had been detained and placed under investigation by the National Supervisory Commission.
Dubbed China's "LED King," the capital heavyweight had stepped down from all company positions as early as 2017, but retreating behind the scenes did not grant him immunity.
Although the specific reasons for Lin Xiucheng's investigation have not been disclosed, Sanan Optoelectronics' own operating difficulties are impossible to ignore. For 2025, the company expects a net loss attributable to the parent company of RMB 200 million to 300 million — its first annual loss in 17 years since its backdoor listing. The company attributed the loss to the drag from its filter and silicon carbide businesses, reduced government subsidies, increased R&D spending, and higher inventory write-down provisions.
More troubling still, on April 7, 2026, the company announced that vice chairman and general manager Lin Kechuang had also been detained and placed under investigation. With performance under pressure and both the controlling shareholder and the general manager under investigation in succession, the market can hardly avoid asking whether there were irregularities intended to dress up financial reports or conceal deeper operating troubles.
Analysts argue that even with strong technology and a complete industrial chain layout, an industry giant may still stumble during a transition period if it ignores corporate governance and compliance red lines.
